There are various five-a-side football gatherings and plenty of after school football events for children. Professionally, the local first division club is AEP Paphos. A perenial mid table side, big enough to take the scalp of one of the 'Nicosia powerhouses - Apoel and Omonia' (the term powerhouse is vastly overused in Cypriot football and highly relative) occasionally, but not yet strong enough to seriously challenge for Europe. Worth watching though...

The events in Portugal last year of course has been a dream come true for all Greek speaking football fans. Expect this enthusiasm to dominate many a casual conversation for a while to come and to witness Greek flags everywhere.
